Standing Strong: Ruidoso's 2025 Flood Recovery

Historic flooding in 2024 tested Ruidoso's spirit and resolve. In July 2025, our New Mexico community experienced another challenge when the Rio Ruidoso rose by over 20 feet. The height to which the river rose exceeded previous records by five feet, and the flooding caused devastating damage to hundreds of properties.

Our community's resilience during times of intense trouble proves that we are Ruidoso strong. Residents of our great village have already begun healing from the South Fork and Salt fires of 2024. Now, we continue showing unrivaled determination to support each other as rebuilding efforts proceed following the disastrous flash flood.

Resilience Amid Destruction and Rescue Missions

The flooded river and heavy rainfall damaged about 200 homes. People also lost their lives due to the quickly rising waters, including a man and two children.

The flooding was so sudden and severe that the waters swept away entire structures and personal belongings. Vehicles also experienced intense flooding and performance issues. Emergency responders had to conduct 50 to 60 water rescues due to the weather.

The most recent flash flooding was so severe due to burn scars from the 2024 wildfires. Despite working diligently to bounce back from the wildfires, the community still has fire-damaged terrain. Certain areas of the village are unable to absorb water effectively, creating dangerous runoffs that cause flash flooding.

Recovery Resources: Support for Damaged Vehicles and More

As a long-standing local dealership, Sierra Blanca Motors takes the "Ruidoso strong" motto seriously. Our dealership offers comprehensive vehicle assessments and timely repairs for flood damage.

We recognize the fact that some vehicular flood damage may cost more than the vehicle's value to repair, causing insurance companies to view the car or truck as a complete loss. Yet, our service department's expert technicians and state-of-the-art equipment help restore flood-damaged vehicles to safe and reliable conditions.

State and federal disaster recovery centers offer a broader service range for residents dealing with the aftermath of the flood. Locations like ENMU-Ruidoso offer FEMA assistance, housing support, disaster case management, and information on document replacement from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Building Tomorrow: Infrastructure and Innovation After Crisis

Due to previous flash flooding involving the Rio Ruidoso, our local government is blending what it learned from past cases with advanced flood mitigation planning to address the problems our village experiences.

Our village is working with various state agencies and engineering experts to improve drainage systems, upgrade infrastructure, and develop early warning technologies. The overall mission is to find and implement solutions that offer better protection against natural disasters for the community.

Sierra Blanca Motors is also investing in Ruidoso's future. Our dealership features flood-resistant service capabilities like elevated service bays and waterproof diagnostic equipment. We also train our technicians on water-damaged vehicle restoration to ensure reliable automotive support for any weather challenge.

Partners in Recovery: Sierra Blanca Motors' Commitment

We are Ruidoso strong at Sierra Blanca Motors. We actively participate in disaster relief efforts in several ways, including participation in various fundraising initiatives. Our team coordinates with volunteer organizations like Samaritan's Purse for debris cleanup and serves as an information hub for flood and wildfire resources.

Professionally, we are the dealership to visit for specialized automotive support for flood-damaged vehicles. At our dealership, flood-affected residents can get detailed vehicle inspections, ongoing maintenance services, and expert guidance on keeping a flood-damaged car or truck safe and reliable after its initial repairs.

The safety and satisfaction of our community members are our top priorities at Sierra Blanca Motors. When Ruidoso residents need help, we always rise to the occasion.

Together We Are Ruidoso Strong

Ruidoso's robust sense of community will help our village bounce back from flooding and other natural disasters. Federal and state resources continue providing local support for long-term recovery. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham commits to security emergency declarations while working toward getting additional federal assistance to aid community rebuilding, housing, and infrastructure repairs.

Despite the most recent troubles with inclement weather, the Ruidoso tourism industry hasn't come to a complete standstill. Today, the economy is showing signs of resilience as the community continues restoring essential services, clearing debris, and welcoming visitors.
